Mount Clare Museum Strategic Plan

Why Does Mount Clare Museum Matter?

Nestled in the heart of South Baltimore in Carroll Park, Mount Clare Museum (MCM) stands as one of the city’s most treasured historic landmarks. Built in 1760’s, Mount Clare is the oldest surviving colonial-era structure in Baltimore, and the only remaining industrial plantation site within a major American city. MCM is a National Historic Landmark and an Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site.

Over the next year, MCM will engage the community in planning for the Museum’s next stage, through a process led by a team of experts. The result will be a strategic plan to guide the future of the museum.

Throughout this process there will be ample time for community members to share their ideas and feedback; please keep an eye on this page to learn about upcoming Open Houses and other community events.

Mount Clare Museum preserves a circa 1760 historic house and the surrounding landscape, and presents the history of Baltimore City’s development, by focusing on the lives of individuals who lived, worked, and played here. At Mount Clare, a National Historic Landmark, and Underground Railroad Network to Freedom site, we are dedicated to serving a diverse audience, through accurate interpretation and by providing engaging programs and dynamic exhibitions.
