Driving positive change requires bold vision – the imagination to see big opportunities and the resources to make them a reality. We call these opportunities Transformational Projects.
Transformational Projects are not just expensive, they are catalytic, with the power to change the trajectory of our entire District. But dreams this big also require a partner with the resources to help make them happen.
That’s where SBGP comes in. We have the vision to see opportunity, and the strong partnerships to ensure that our neighborhoods are at the table from the very beginning. We have the resources to mobilize a major effort, and the patience to help it grow over time.
It is our duty to find these opportunities, to nurture them, and to build the coalitions needed to make them a reality. We are here to be a catalyst for change.

Reimagine Middle Branch
We are championing the effort to transform the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River into Baltimore’s Next Great Waterfront, reconnecting neighborhoods to their shorelines through an 11-mile system of parks, trails, restored landscapes, and public amenities. This is a community-driven initiative which establishes bold new standards for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in the planning process.
Community Development Fund
The Community Development Fund (CDF) equitably sponsors community-led real estate projects in the neighborhoods of the SBGP District. This program is for nonprofit organizations seeking funding for community-driven real estate projects under the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership’s Community Development Fund (CDF). This is a separate program from the SBGP Community Grants Program, with different rules and timing. The CDF accepts applications on a rolling basis but will not review applications for anything other than community-driven real estate projects.
B&O Railroad Museum Support
The South Baltimore Gateway Partnership will provide $1 million in funding for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum’s plan to restore its South Car Works Building and create open community space as part of the museum’s new master plan.
Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center
We are helping the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks build the long-awaited Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center in Cherry Hill, bringing a $23 million world-class recreational facility and public health programming to the neighborhood and District communities. This center, now under construction, will feature indoor and outdoor pools; an indoor gym and an outdoor basketball court; indoor fitness room and walking track; and four multipurpose fields, including a turf field built in partnership with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.
