Beyond the Game: Baltimore Black Sox Memorial

DC News Now’s Beyond the Game program highlights the stories that happen off the field and outside of the stadium. This episode showcases the forthcoming Baltimore Black Sox Memorial project, highlighting the Negro Leagues champions who played in the Westport neighborhood of Baltimore. The baseball team was founded in 1913 and began playing in Westport in 1917. In 1929, the team clinched the American Negro League pennant with a 61–28 record. Dave Leval is joined by South Baltimore Gateway Partnership’s Brad Rogers, and Dr. Frank Lance from Parks & People, who share the importance of recognizing the achievements of this team, their contributions to sports and the Civil Rights movement, and the positive developments with Reimagine Middle Branch that bring this story back into the present and connected to the future.
