BALTIMORE (WBAL-TV11) — A team is reconstructing a tidal marsh system in South Baltimore in an effort to bring back what used to be a vibrant ecosystem. Crews said they’re successfully reversing decades of erosion on the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River.
“This is one small project in a long series of many projects that have to happen around here,” said Andrew Forbes, senior project manager of GreenVest.
Forbes is part of the team leading the transformation along South Baltimore’s shoreline.
Crews are recreating a tidal marsh system from scratch where nearly 3,000 acres of natural habitat have disappeared from decades of dredging and development. Crews are filling in open water with 100,000 tons of sand and stone.
