South Baltimore Gateway Partnership Announces Design-Build Team and Public Meeting for the Carroll Park Recreation Center Renovation

South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP), in partnership with Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks (BCRP), issued a competitive design-build request for proposals (RFP) for the renovation and expansion of Carroll Park Recreation Center in late 2021. SBGP and BCRP are thrilled to announce that MCN Build and JRS Architects – as a team MCN|JRS – has been selected as the design-build team for this innovative project!

Located on the northeast corner of Carroll Park in the neighborhood of Pigtown, Carroll Park Recreation Center dates back to the 1970s and is approximately 7,500 square feet. The building has been shuttered for more than a decade. The project will include a full renovation of the building’s interior and updating the façade and is expected to be completed in early 2024. The first of many updates planned for Carroll Park over the next few years, the goal of this project is to adopt a “campus model” where the modest-sized structure will be well-used for 21st-century recreational programming while taking advantage of the surrounding assets.

To best serve the community, SBGP, BCRP, and MCN|JRS will host a community engagement meeting to facilitate community feedback. In this effort, the team will inform the community about the early stages of design, and residents will be able to respond openly to the concepts brought forward. This meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 26th, from 6:00 – 7:00pm at the Southwest Baltimore Charter School (1300 Herkimer St., Baltimore, MD 21223) with a virtual option (via Zoom). An online survey will be available to gather community input for those unable to attend.

“SBGP and BCRP’s pursuit to bring the community’s building back to life with programming for the neighborhood is inspiring, and we are honored to be part of that vision,” said Bill Beschorner, MCN Build’s Vice President of the Northeast Region.
