“The way [SBGP] approaches this work, is that we want to be partners, we want to be supporters, we want to be enablers, and we want to be force multipliers for the real people who should be really driving the conversation, which is the leadership in the communities we represent [in the SBGP District]. Our job is to build long-lasting relationships with them, to learn what they’re looking for and what they think are top priorities, and then provide the tools that they can use to take advantage of opportunities that come their way to make their neighborhoods better. For example, yes, [SBGP ] spends money on behalf of the neighborhoods, but we also provide grants to the neighborhoods. We spend 1 to 1.5 million dollars a year just to non-profits and community organizations in our District, doing the work on the ground.”
